On 12th October, Rage plugin hook cracked. This entry of the most prominent hack was introduced by a group of anonymous hackers to overwrite the system with a payload of Trojan malware and ransomware, which would allow hackers to monitor and control victims’ activities. The hack has been widely discussed on major hacking and cybersecurity websites such as Bleeping Computer and Techworm. Some even fear that it might lead to an entire software update crisis on Windows 10 devices, however this is unlikely because Microsoft was quick enough to issue an update for their operating system just days later as soon as they were aware about the hack. The patch has since been deployed on all devices running the operating system. The hack was relatively easy to implement, because of an oversight in the software. The developer of the software, Remco van der Veen, stated that he had forgotten to remove a feature that made it possible for developers to bypass two-factor authentication on Windows 10 devices. Typically, this functionality requires users to enter their phone numbers twice when accessing or downloading files from Windows Store apps or websites that use it. If there is no support available for this feature in an app, then it won't work at all. This vulnerability will allow any malicious code to bypass two-factor authentication and be executed by simply clicking on a link sent in SMS messages. Many users have taken to the Windows Store to register their complaints. One complaint stated: “I paid for a product and now my computer is broken – I have a serious problem – how can I fix this?” Another complaint stated: “The store won’t let me remove the app. It opened a CMD window and closed it immediately after. The app will not quit though, it keeps running in the background. Please help!” Microsoft responded by issuing an update that fixes the vulnerability, however Microsoft Support Community Moderator Jon added that users might still be able to run the hack if they didn't apply for this update. However, as of November 14th, 2018, Microsoft has taken down the app from its Windows Store. The vulnerability was patched by the software developer Remco van der Veen and it was his responsibility to restore the functionality that would block unauthorized downloads. He also stated that developers were not to bypass two-factor authentication and that he is still currently working on a more secure version of Rage Plugin Hook. ARTICLE END “I remember when I first started using my computer, I got so excited I could only type using capital letters. I was in love with the process…” Jason wrote in an article for Popular Science in 1998 about how he got hooked on computers. - https://jenniferparish98.wordpress.com/2018/09/08/how-to-protect-your-windows-10-device/ If you need to unlock your device (laptop, tablet, pc) and it isn't working, you can contact Microsoft support: https://support.microsoft.com/#contactus#pcfixedsecuritytooltips If your device is locked due to a hack like this, you can contact Microsoft support: https://support.microsoft. cfa1e77820
